About

What this
site is for

Field & Paper is a reference resource for remote workers and home office organizers in Canada. No courses, no memberships, no products — just organized, current information on the practical side of working from home.

Remote work in Canada involves a specific set of conditions that general remote work advice does not account for: a wide spread of time zones within a single country, winter seasons that affect productivity and mental health in documented ways, residential housing markets that make dedicated workspace a real constraint, and a distributed workforce that spans urban apartments and suburban homes across six provinces and three territories.

Field & Paper covers the practical, not the motivational. The articles here address setup decisions, scheduling structures, equipment configurations, and boundary-setting methods that have a documented basis rather than relying on habit or received wisdom from pre-pandemic office culture.

What is covered

The current focus areas are:

  • Home office setup — room selection, lighting, internet reliability, desk configuration
  • Time zone management across Canadian and international distributed teams
  • Ergonomics — chair adjustment, monitor placement, keyboard positioning
  • Work-life boundary structures for remote professionals

How content is developed

Articles reference government resources (Health Canada, CCOHS, Statistics Canada, Natural Resources Canada) where applicable, and link to primary sources rather than summarizing secondhand. Writing is updated when referenced guidance changes or when new data becomes available. Dates of last update are displayed on each article.
